Job Overview: First Line Maintenance Engineer
NEWL is hiring a First Line Maintenance Engineer to execute telecom infrastructure projects and ensure optimal network availability, stability, and performance across assigned regions in Tanzania.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct preventive maintenance site visits for telecom equipment per SLA requirements
- Perform first-level troubleshooting on RAN systems (BTS, Node B, E-Node B, 5G) and transmission systems (PDH/SDH, fiber optic)
- Execute corrective maintenance and restore services within SLA timelines
- Carry out software and hardware upgrades at field sites
- Clear network degradation alarms to improve network quality
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports to management
- Support tasks assigned by Line Manager, SLM, or NOC
- Inspect and conduct Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP) for microwave links and RAN equipment
- Ensure SHEQ compliance across all project activities
- Report near misses, hazards, and SHEQ non-conformities
- Submit incident reports within 24 hours
- Complete Field Level Risk Assessments before planned work
- Cooperate with SHEQ teams during incident investigations
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, or related field
Certifications (Required & Preferred)
- Valid Driving License (required)
- Working at Height certificate (advantage)
- Defensive driving and 4×4 certification (advantage)
Skills & Competencies
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently within defined procedures
- Willingness to work in any region within Tanzania
