Maternity Africa operates from Kivulini Maternity Centre, located outside Arusha City in Northern Tanzania, where it offers specialized maternity services and fistula surgery care to vulnerable women.

Job Description

The Nurse-Midwife (ANO/NO) will provide high-quality maternal and newborn healthcare services to pregnant and postnatal women. The role includes antenatal care, labor and delivery support, postnatal follow-up, and participation in birth injury treatments such as fistula surgeries.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong professional ethics, competence in managing obstetric emergencies, and a caring attitude toward patients. Continuous professional development through mentorship and training is provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide antenatal and postnatal care to pregnant women.

  • Assist mothers and newborns during labor and delivery.

  • Perform routine gynecological examinations and maternity care.

  • Educate patients on maternal health, parenting, and family planning.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records.

  • Collaborate with doctors and other healthcare professionals.

  • Identify and refer high-risk pregnancies when necessary.

  • Conduct medical tests and diagnose health conditions.

  • Provide emotional and psychological support to expectant and new mothers.

  • Administer vaccinations to children under five years.

  • Provide all family planning methods to mothers.

  • Tutor and mentor student midwives.

  • Monitor and administer medications, injections, and IV infusions during labor.

  • Perform any other duties assigned by management.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery or higher qualification.

  • Valid Nursing and Midwifery registration certificates from TNMC.

  • Valid and current Nurse Practising License.

  • Minimum of three (3) years working experience, preferably in labour ward, RCH, or operating theatre.

  • Proven competence in managing obstetric emergencies.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to provide compassionate, respectful, and patient-centered care.

  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Kiswahili.

  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
