Maternity Africa is a Christian-based not-for-profit organization that provides fistula treatment and quality maternity care for marginalized women across Tanzania. The organization operates on the principles of love, kindness, compassion, and respect for all people regardless of race, religion, or ethnicity. Maternity Africa operates from Kivulini Maternity Centre outside Arusha City in Northern Tanzania.
We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Medical Doctor (MD) to join our team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality patient care, adhering to the highest medical standards, ethical guidelines, and Tanzanian medical regulations. The ideal candidate must be experienced in maternal/obstetric care and able to work flexible schedules including night duties.
Role Responsibilities
Provide opinions and assist in the management of outpatients or inpatients referred by the midwifery team.
Engage in teaching ward rounds for staff development.
Attend obstetric emergencies on duty/on call and plan ongoing management of care.
Perform assisted deliveries, caesarean sections, and support the midwifery team in managing pregnancy and labor complications.
Attend and review patients with early pregnancy complications and implement medical/surgical management.
Mentor and support members of the multidisciplinary team, emphasizing shared goals, knowledge, and respect.
Assist during fistula camps with patient screening, intraoperative support, and postoperative care.
Perform on-call duties including weekends and nights as per the Kivulini Maternity Centre roster.
Ensure accurate and timely medical documentation.
Participate in clinical governance, including reporting and reviewing clinical incidents.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
Education: Medical Doctor (MD) degree from an accredited university.
Licensure/Certification: Valid medical practising license in Tanzania and registration certificate from the Medical Council of Tanganyika.
Experience: Minimum 5 years as a practicing physician; at least 3 years in obstetrics (caesarean sections, difficult deliveries, obstetric emergencies, minor obstetric repairs, and fistula screening).
Skills:
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient-centered skills.
Strong diagnostic and clinical judgment.
Ability to provide kind and compassionate care to vulnerable women.
Effective performance in fast-paced environments.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Knowledge of Tanzanian medical regulations and SOPs.
