In Tanzania, TREES works with over 8,000 farmers across Singida, Tabora, Mwanza, and Simiyu, supported by a team of 63 staff members. The organization aims to plant 8 million trees this year while strengthening local food systems and promoting sustainable agriculture.
Role Overview
TREES Tanzania is seeking a Livelihood and Value Chain Coordinator to lead the development and implementation of its livelihoods and value chain strategy. This role is responsible for improving community economic well-being by strengthening market systems, creating sustainable income opportunities, and building capacity in entrepreneurship and financial literacy. The position reports to the Senior Manager, Field Programs.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement inclusive agriculture value chain strategies, with a focus on vegetable production and smallholder farmer engagement.

Conduct value chain and market assessments, identify gaps, and develop recommendations to improve efficiency and profitability.

Build capacity through training, mentoring, and development of TOTs for project staff and farmer groups.

Facilitate private sector engagement, creating linkages between farmers, cooperatives, and market actors for value addition, processing, branding, and sustainable market access.

Support VSLA initiatives, financial literacy programs, and access to credit for farmers.

Promote climate-smart agriculture, post-harvest management, food safety, and use of innovative technologies including solar solutions.

Document lessons learned, prepare evidence-based reports, success stories, and communication materials for management and donors.
Qualifications and Experience

Advanced degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, Rural Development, or a related field (postgraduate qualifications are an added advantage).

Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in livelihoods diversification, agricultural value chain development, rural business development, and marketing, preferably in an NGO or development context.

Proven experience in value chain assessments, market linkages, capacity building, and sustainable agriculture programming.

Strong experience engaging with private sector actors, government institutions, producer groups, and rural financing systems.

Expertise in VSLA methodology, microfinance principles, and financial literacy programs.

Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, and facilitation skills.
