Organization Overview
The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement
of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to
advancing military medicine. Since 1983, HJF has supported military, medical,
academic, and government institutions by managing and administering high-impact
scientific programs that benefit both armed forces personnel and civilians.
This role supports the operations of HJF Medical
Research International in Tanzania.
Position Overview
The Driver will ensure safe, efficient, and timely
transportation of staff, partners, and program materials across
HJFMRI-supported sites and administrative areas.
The role also involves maintaining assigned vehicles in
excellent condition and ensuring compliance with Tanzania traffic laws and
organizational policies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Transportation & Logistics
- Safely
transport staff, partners, and authorized personnel to assigned
destinations
- Deliver
program materials, parcels, and commodities as required
- Assist
passengers with loading and unloading luggage
2. Vehicle Management & Maintenance
- Maintain
assigned vehicle in compliance with:
- Tanzania
Road Traffic Act
- Organizational
policies and procedures
- Conduct
routine checks (oil, tires, brakes, coolant)
- Arrange
for minor and major repairs as needed
- Ensure
vehicle cleanliness (interior and exterior)
3. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure
all vehicle permits (insurance, road license, safety stickers) are valid
and up to date
- Follow
all traffic rules and regulations
- Ensure
only authorized personnel operate the vehicle
- Maintain
functional safety equipment, including:
- First
aid kits
- Vehicle
tools
- Security
cameras
4. Monitoring & Reporting
- Record
all trips, servicing, and maintenance in the vehicle logbook
- Report
mechanical issues and vehicle incidents immediately
- Ensure
compliance procedures are followed in case of accidents
5. Route Planning & Efficiency
- Plan
routes ahead of time for efficiency and safety
- Monitor
traffic and weather updates to adjust travel routes
6. Administrative & Program Support
- Perform
biometric and non-biometric registration of program participants
- Support
inspection of hired vehicles
- Carry
out messenger and clerical tasks as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Certificate
of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE)
- Advanced
Driving Certificate from:
- VETA,
or
- National
Institute of Transportation
Experience
- Minimum 3
years of driving experience across different vehicle types
- Experience
with international NGOs in a multicultural setting (preferred)
Licensing
- Valid Class
“C” driving license
- Clean
driving record

vehicle maintenance and repair skills (including 4WD vehicles)
