Job Purpose
The Senior Accountant is responsible
for the day-to-day processing of claims from branches for SASTAIN projects. Key
focuses include processing staff claims, initiating expenditure recording in
the ERP, supporting donor reporting, and managing end-of-month cut-off
processes.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Financial
Processing: Ensure timely settlement of
payables and accurate recording of expenditure entries in the ERP.
- Claim
Management: Timely processing of per
diems, transport, and stipend payments for SASTAIN project staff.
- Account
Management: Monthly management of branch
suspense accounts.
- Tax
& Compliance: Ensure compliance with tax
laws (Withholding taxes) and prepare timely tax returns.
- Risk
Management: Implement and update the
EBTL risk register and conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCAs) for the finance
department.
- Audit
Support: Coordinate statutory audits
of program financial statements and internal/external audits for
donor-funded projects.
- Reporting: Drive
measurable donor reporting support and ensure compliance with donor
contractual requirements.
Key Decisions
- Reviewing
and approving project staff claims and invoices to ensure they meet policy
requirements.
- Deciding
on the appropriate categorization of transactions to avoid errors during
ERP entry.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Degree
in a business-related course.
- Professional
Qualification: CPA(T) or ACCA
qualification.
- Experience: 5+
years in finance operations as an accountant.
- Added
Advantage: Previous experience working
with donor-funded programs.
- Technical
Skills: Proficiency in MS Office
(advanced spreadsheets), ERP, and DMIS.
Required Skills and Competencies
- In-depth
knowledge of donor-specific financial guidelines and compliance.
- High
level of accuracy in preparing financial reports.
- Clear
and effective communication skills.
- Ability
to collaborate with various teams within the bank.
- Capacity
to train and mentor staff on financial best practices.
