NBC, the oldest serving bank in Tanzania with over five decades of experience, offers a range of services including retail, business, corporate and investment banking, and wealth management products. The bank is seeking a Business Development Manager to drive growth in loans, deposits, and other banking products at the branch level. The role involves managing all sales activities, monitoring and mentoring branch Sales Officers, ensuring business targets are met, and supporting overall branch performance.
The successful candidate will focus on business soliciting and customer acquisition. Key responsibilities include:

Acquiring new customers and recruiting them for bank products

Visiting existing customers regularly to ensure satisfaction and smooth operations
-
Identifying sectors and areas relevant for business growth
-
Conducting KYC and risk reviews for potential customers and approaching them to open accounts
-
Collaborating with Business Development Partners to introduce relevant products in the locality
-
Providing feedback to the Head of Customer Network on branch performance
-
Engaging with Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) and Business Banking departments to identify retail opportunities

Addressing customer queries related to business matters
Deposit mobilization is another core responsibility. The manager will:

Understand local business dynamics to grow deposits
-
Supervise deposit mobilization campaigns at branches
-
Proactively solicit deposits from all clients to meet bank targets
-
Follow activities identified in the branch activity calendar
Cross-selling of bank products is also part of the role, including:

Mobile Banking, Internet Banking, Agent Banking, Insurance, Deposit Products, Loans, FX, Transfers

Collecting market intelligence about local competition, products, and service levels
Relationship management is essential. The manager will:

Drive customer engagement activities at the branch
-
Interact with clients to build loyalty and trust
-
Identify potential clients and convert them through meetings and product discussions
-
Develop and maintain long-term relationships with segmented customers
-
Participate in corporate and social events and ensure acquired business remains active
The role also involves reporting, monitoring, and turnaround, which includes:

Maintaining a database of high net worth customers
-
Monitoring branch business growth through KPIs
-
Supporting loan turnaround and recovery efforts
-
Managing PAR and NPL of retail loans
-
Providing inputs to Stressed Asset Management Units
Coaching and mentoring branch Sales Officers is part of the position. The manager will:

Coach and mentor staff regularly
-
Monitor and report performance against agreed KPIs
-
Guide the team to improve sales results
Additional duties include participating in branch budgeting for sales activities, preparing reports and business proposals for management approval, and performing any other tasks assigned by the Branch Manager.
Qualifications and Skills required:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration

Minimum three years of banking experience
