Accountant – Payable
Purpose of the Role
The Accountant – Payable will be responsible for processing both local and foreign supplier payments, preparing daily cash reports, and ensuring compliance with all statutory tax obligations. The role also ensures timely payment of taxes including VAT, Withholding Tax, Corporate Tax, and Instalment Tax for Mwananchi Communications Limited.
Key Responsibilities
Keep track of all payments and expenditures including purchase orders, invoices, and supplier statements. Ensure timely preparation, payment, and filing of tax returns such as VAT, Withholding Tax, and Corporate Tax. Monitor payment processing according to approved payment plans and ensure timely batching and processing of supplier, statutory, and utility bill payments.
Manage supplier accounts by ensuring all regular suppliers are properly registered in the accounting system. Capture expenses on a timely basis to support the matching concept and ensure invoices are properly approved and stamped before posting. Maintain accounting ledgers by verifying and posting account transactions.
Prepare audit schedules accurately and on time, ensuring monthly submission by the 15th day of each month. Process payments for customs duty, including facilitation of import documentation for raw material suppliers and settlement of bills of exchange as they fall due. Request supplier statements on a monthly basis and ensure regular application of invoices and payments.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience.
Professional Qualification: CPA certification is required.
