Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is seeking qualified
Research Officer Interns to support the Malaria Atlas Project
(MAP) African regional node. This office responds to the increasing
demand for country-specific and subnational malaria risk mapping,
enhanced technical support to National Malaria Programs (NMPs), and
strengthened leadership, research & development (R&D), and advanced
analytical capacity for endemic-country modelers and institutions across
Africa.
The internship provides hands-on experience in research
dissemination, data analysis, modelling, and collaboration with malaria control
stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Research & Analytical Support
- Practice
and strengthen research dissemination and analytical skills while
responding to technical questions from National Malaria Programs (NMPs)
and other malaria stakeholders in endemic African countries.
- Enhance
analytical and programming skills through practical research activities.
- Perform
data gathering, extraction, management, and visualization.
- Support
development of dashboards, analytical tools, and research outputs.
- Design
and implement small, time-bound research projects contributing to the
overall objectives of MAP initiatives.
Collaboration & Capacity Building
- Participate
in conferences, technical meetings, and research dissemination forums.
- Collaborate
with researchers, analysts, and program stakeholders across regions.
Compliance, Safety & Ethics
- Abide
by IHI institutional policies, procedures, and core values.
- Take
reasonable care of personal health and safety and avoid actions that may
endanger others.
- Identify
and assess workplace hazards and apply appropriate control measures.
- Report
all workplace injuries, illnesses, or near-miss incidents promptly.
Desired Skills
- Ability
to examine, analyze, and process data using tools such as R,
Python, and QGIS.
- Experience
or interest in dashboard development, machine learning tools,
and a strong willingness to expand technical skills.
- Strong
attention to detail, self-review discipline, and effective time management
skills.
- Commitment
to IHI core values and ethical research conduct.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s
Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or other
relevant quantitative disciplines.
- Knowledge
of public health, disease epidemiology, vector-borne diseases, and
ecology is an added advantage.
Preferred Language Skills
- Multilingual
proficiency is an advantage:
